QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine National Athletic Trainer’s Association Certified SC DHEC Certification.

 

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and Principal

 

 JOB GOAL: The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating Spartanburg School District 7’s overall sports medicine program; to include injury prevention, evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries, short and long term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student athletes regarding safe participation in sports. This Athletic Trainer Position will primarily be rotating between our two Middle Schools with some Spartanburg High School Coverage.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES:

 

  1. Provide athletic training services for the Spartanburg District 7 Athletic Department events, including attendance at practices, all home sporting events, some away football games, and Spartanburg District 7 sponsored tournaments.
  2. Evaluate any injury and determine athlete’s ability to practice or compete.
  3. Render first aid to injured players, such as giving artficial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.
  4. Provide treatment as prescribed by physician to injured athletes daily and weekends.
  5. Communicate with team physicians on the injury and treatment of athletes.
  6. Oversee compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of all medical records, treatment, sports physicals, and insurance for all student athletes.
  7. Communicate with parents with regard to prevention of injury, injury care, doctor consultation and referral, and insurance benefits.
  8. Act as a liaison between physician, athlete, parent, and coach.
  9. Review and determine eligibility of insurance claims with the school athletic insurance and supervise prompt processing of medical bills and insurance claims.
  10. Report status of injured student-athletes to appropriate coaching staff.
  11. Assist Spartanburg District Seven’s school nurses in regards to school injuries, medical emergencies, and medical plans for students.
  12. Maintain appropriate certifications to include: NATA, CPR, OSHA, First Responder, and DHEC.
  13. Works well with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
  14. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director/Principal/Superintendent.
